The author and his work

Miquel Toldrà: a life dedicated to painting

Miquel Toldrà was a self-taught artist, discreet and deeply devoted to his passion: painting. Born with a natural instinct for art, he never sought recognition or fame. His life was lived in creative silence, among brushes, oil paints, and canvases, painting what he felt, what he observed, and what he loved. He passed away in 2020, at the age of 93, after more than three decades devoted to his work, continuing to create until his final days.

He never wanted to sell or exhibit his paintings. He painted because he needed to, because it was his way of expressing and understanding the world. Today, his family honors that legacy by sharing it with the public from their home, Cal Toldrà, which has become a permanent exhibition.

A legacy of authenticity and emotion

Miquel Toldrà left behind more than 800 oil paintings, an impressive display of perseverance, sensitivity, and artistic evolution. His work encompasses themes such as floral compositions, flowers, landscapes, and some forays into figure painting and still life, always with a realistic and human approach.

Each painting is a reflection of his inner world: the calm of someone who was never in a hurry, the patience of someone who paints without expecting anything in return, and the sensitive gaze of someone who finds beauty in the everyday. Toldrà needed nothing more than his colors and his surroundings to construct a visual universe as intimate as it is powerful.
